UpTop on the LapDate....err....
Still no news about my laptop. I've pinpointed the hour it was stolen, though. Between 4 and 5 AM.
Today I went to the police. He was impressed with how much investigating I had done. But there's not much they can do. My file goes to a judge next, who'll decide if my case is worth investigating. "But there aren't many elements," said the police, through my friend who translated. It's just too weird. Why take one of the worst laptops here? There are so many PowerBooks sitting around, so much other equipment here. Why mine? And why just my laptop and not my sweet headphones that were plugged into the laptop? (Not like I'm complaining...although all my decent music was on my laptop. I'll have to rebuild a bunch of my music collection. argh. Now I am missing those CDs that were so used and scratched.....sigh.) I'm moving on, though. It seems silly to keep hoping that the computer will show up. Though if it did and it was someone living here, I would drop charges. No reason to prosecute them if I have my stuff back. I've thought about announcing that...maybe someone wouldn't worry about coming forward? By now they must have found all the problems...the screen that doesn't stay open unless at a certain angle, the battery that dies after 15 minutes, the lack of ethernet port, the <600 MB left on my hard drive, how IE crashes every third time it's opened.... Now I'm considering an iBook. Not like I have any money for this, but, it's good to at least have an idea of what I'm looking for. Something to aim toward. I can't believe I'd actually make the PC-Mac jump, after all the prosletyzing that I've resisted for so long! Ah well. I've talked about and thought about the missing computer long enough. I'm ready to move on! (But wouldn't it be cool if it showed up?) ~ neb, the forever optimist
