Demystification of Weddings
18 September 2005, at 1:44 am

To anyone thinking about getting married....

If I hadn't already bought my dress and bridesmaid's dresses weren't already being sewn, I would call off the whole ceremony. I would make an appointment with a judge. And I would just have a little party when we got back from the honeymoon.

All this fanfare and details and tradition is just...overrated.

I'm very grateful to everyone who's doing things to make the day possible...it really wouldn't happen if it wasn't for people like my mom and sister who've already done so much.

But really, it's just one day. Maybe this would all seem more worth it if it could stretch out for weeks like Christmas does.

Getting married is more like Thanksgiving. Days and days (ok, weeks) of preparation that is all over in a few hours. You're left with sleepy guests, dirty dishes, and a fridge full of leftovers.

I guess mine will go on a bit longer...we're having a second "reception" in Texas three weeks later. At least I don't have to make any decisions about that party! (I hope.)

It's been an insanely crazy week with my job--deadlines suddenly pushed up. Add to that doing the invitations, babysitting 23 hours this week, apartment hunting, finding a photographer we can afford, avoiding filling my car with gas, interviewing people who are working with Hurricane Katrina refugees.....

It makes me more tired than I already am!

So with that,
The.
End.
