I Can Have a Life (or something like it) Again!

Hallelujah.

The website I've been working on 10+ hours a day for the last month is finally online...only a few days behind schedule because of some server glitches. Yay for Dot Net Nuke. (An easy open source CMS.) Yay for crash courses in Flash and CSS. Yay for it being almost over.

I say "almost" because the site really could use some help...with my graphics person being MIA this last month (remodeling his house), I had to make do with the little bit of knowledge I've gleaned from my sister.

I've decided that design and most visual arts in general are not my first language. It's been like being a first year Spanish student sitting in a fifth year class. Every once in a while I recognize a word or a phrase. I can say some basic lines, but I know my accent is all wrong.

The knowledge that what I'm creating doesn't look awesome and knowing that no matter what I try, I can't fix it, has been the hardest thing to overcome.

But my graphics person promised he'd be back in the office sometime next week. Well, he's promised that for the last few weeks, so we'll see how things actually turn out. But. Maybe. Just maybe, he'll help out and make the site not so boxy and amateur. Who knows.

I've learned that I can't really count on other people to carry their load in a project to the same degree that I might. Now I have to learn how to be a better people-manager so I don't get stuck doing the work of three people again.

All learning things, I suppose....It'll take time and I have to allow myself to make mistakes. To let other people make mistakes.

And I better hurry home to get the banana bread out of the oven. (What I wouldn't give for internet access at home!)
