Amputated Last Night
Anyone care to join me on a covert operation?
My laptop was stolen last night between 3 and 5 AM. Yes, in this sleepy, Swiss cow town where no one locks anything, where farmers don't mind if you walk through their fields as long as you close the gate, where there are 8 iMacs in the same room as my laptop was, where there are thousands of dollars of equipment all over. My laptop. Probably the oldest laptop here. Certainly the one with the most bugs. And the most files and ideas and projects and papers and and and. I could go on for a long time. It almost sounds like an inside operation, but I don't suspect anyone here. People keep asking me if I've found it. If I know anything knew. Speculation continues. I hear the school's insurance policy will cover something. I'll have to talk to the Swiss police. But how can I replace all that's been lost? How can I keep up with homework without a computer? How can I do this? I dreamed a few weeks ago that I filled the last page of my journal. I couldn't write another word. My mind nearly exploded. Now, this is much worse. A foreign keyboard just doesn't cut it. My chat programs. My Skype. My saved conversations with my boyfriend and wise advice from Mom. My journal. My plans. My music. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, I'm praying it comes back. Praying that whoever moved it feels remorse and returns it. At this point, I'd give the computer if I could have my files back. Fingers crossed.
