What is it about storms that makes them appear so suddenly. only to disappear in a single moment, leaving the world serenely, surprising? as if the air and trees and sky knew only one temperament: calm, partly cloudly

Hail is rare enough in my part of the country that the rain of rocks on my roof and porch is still a novelty full of lore and leering tales: that hail is the sure harbinger of tornadoes.
